ordering

Q: “How do I inquire?”

Please email us through this this link, and we will send you our Welcome Guide. We will contact you to confirm our availability, order details, and make arrangements for pick-up and delivery. Our Welcome Guide will also include details of our cake tasting session/cake tasting boxes.

Q: “How far in advance should I inquire?

As early as possible! Maile Cake Design only takes a very limited number of commissions per month, please send an email to check our availability. We are currently booking weddings/events through 2022 and 2023.

pricing

Q: “How much does your work cost?”

My commissioned work can vary greatly depending on the complexity of the artistry, and servings. We also offer gluten-free cakes, which may have additional charge. Please inquire for a more accurate quotation.

cake tasting

Q: “Do you offer cake tastings?”

Yes, upon request and for commissions meeting the required minimum order. We offer both in-person and video conference consultations, of various formats. The consultations typically last 45 mins to 1 hour. We discuss about your event details: date, time, delivery/pick-up options, set-up, cake servings, flavors, and cake design. Sending pictures, swatches of colors, design aesthetics, and other ideas of inspiration will be helpful. A working sketch is designed on the spot. Limit 2-3 people to attend call for simplicity. As tasting boxes are limited and only offered every quarterly, please inquire early to allow ample time.

booking/initial deposit

Q: “How do I reserve/book a date with you?”

In order to reserve your date, an initial non-refundable retainer is required. Any refunds due to emergencies, cancellations and postponements are seen as a case-by-case basis.

design

Q: “Can you copy the cake exactly from this image?”

No, we do not replicate cakes, for copyright reasons. Our clients are very much involved with the process of their wedding cake design, in the sense that your love story dictates how the cake will eventually look - honoring the cake as an expression of the collaboration between the artist and the couple, as a symbol of your ceremony. Hence, you'll find your cake will be an original piece, or very loosely adapted from another source of inspiration.

Q: “Can you use images from this cartoon, movie, or show?”

Fictional characters from several enterainment media organizations, including Disney, Lucasfilm, and Sanrio, have asserted that cakes should not portray their copyrighted fictional characters, or their copyrighted images without licensing, including works that are reproduced, distributed, performed, publicly displayed, or made into a derivative work without the permission of the copyright owner. However, I can use elements of the fictional character, like their colors, motifs, etc. that captures their likeness instead.

delivery/shipping

Q: “Do you deliver, if so how far?”

Yes, we do! We’re glad to partner with CakeSafe, and can now travel anywhere to deliver your cake safely to you, via plane, vehicle, boat, etc.

Q: “Do you ship?”

Unfortunately, we are not able to ship our cakes at the moment.

(contactless) pick-up

Q: “When can I pick up my commissioned cake?”

Pick-up times may vary depending on daily production and operation. We will work with you to determine at time.

cake care and handling

Q: “How should I care for my cake?”

When picking up your order, we recommend that you keep your car very cold, no matter the season. Place the box on a flat surface, drive carefully and avoid sharp turns or abrupt stops. Though it may seem counter-intuitive, cakes are more secure on a level surface like the floor of your car rather than in your hands. When driving a long distance, keep the cake out of direct sunlight. For all of our tiered cakes, we recommend that you opt for delivery. Cake transport is stressful!

For the best flavor, always serve cake at room temperature. Pull your cake or cupcakes out of the fridge an hour or two prior to serving, depending on the season and temperature.

When displaying your cake, keep it in a cool and temperature-controlled environment. The ideal environment is indoors, in a cool room and out of direct sunlight. My cakes are all covered in buttercream—all made with real butter. They are very stable, but must be handled with care. If your reception is outdoors during the warmer months, your cake should be displayed indoors in an air-conditioned room. If your reception is outdoors in a cooler season, your cake can be displayed outdoors, but in a sheltered or shaded area.

changes to order

Q: “Can I make changes to my order?”

Changes to your commissioned cake is allowed up to one month prior to event date.

payments

Q: “How can do you accept payment?”

We accept most major credit cards via SquareUp.

rentals

Q: “Do you rent cake stands and cake servers?”

No, we do not. We source cake stands to our clients from third-party/retail stores. The cake stand then becomes a keepsake for the couple’s special day.

cancellations

Q: “What is your cancellation policy?”

Refunds for cancelled orders due to emergencies and/or postponements may or may not be subjected to a case-by-case basis. Depending on how late or far in advance an event is cancelled, a portion of the final quoted price may or may not be refunded.
